![]() ![]() 20 minute film taken from ![]() British Transport Films Volume Two: See Britain By Train 2-dvd set. Can only find a short extract online here which has no vehicle content. Very cliche-ridden and a lot of random connections, but has some fascinating footage and very high quality reproduction. And the weather in the 1950s was obviously much better than nowadays. Rejects: red convertible and a bus on A82 at Glencoe ![]() ![]() Glencoe pic shows the "new" (1930s) A82 and the previous Telford road where the scenes from Skyfall were filmed as Bond, Dench and the DB5 gaze down towards where the big house is supposed to be http://www.glorydaysmotorhomes.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/skyfall.jpg I think we can start a new game of Scottish Cliche Bingo for this sort of film. Some starters: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ... and I can now reveal that steam engines should never be allowed to elect new popes ![]() -- Last edit: 2017-08-05 13:17:42 |

The Irish invented the bagpipe, and sold the drawings to the Scots by way of a joke. The Scots haven't seen the joke yet. |

Yesterday my wife an me enjoyed bagpipe-music at https://www.celtic-night.eu/ made by https://youtu.be/zsOGA_giNuo Although it was named "Celtic Night", there was no Irish content. Except "Rapalje" from Holland the other act was Donnie Munro. https://youtu.be/_WUvWX3mq_Q @dsl: the new fiddler girl from the Shetlands is really great. And today we had the ultimade hardcore cliche bingo - we made a boat trip from St.Goar to https://www.ruedesheim.de/en/ Incredible...but enjoyful! One question to the non-Europeans here: wtf are these ugly and useless beer-steins so crucial? Today I had to see some of the ugliest things in my life. -- Last edit: 2017-08-05 21:27:59 |

We've seen through the joke to the other side. Think how much money Scotland makes from bag-piping and related activities. And it can be stunning music sometimes |

We were in Rudesheim last year during a cruise from Luxembourg to Amsterdam. We shall hope to plan something for next year when I know the outcome of my forthcoming cardio thoracic surgery. -- Last edit: 2017-08-05 23:19:02 |

During my one year stay in Glasgow I enjoyed an amazing music festival called "Celtic connections", and was surprised to hear music from many nations. The "go" in the music got me and I spent a fortune on tickets for a whole fortnight. Later I read a comprehensive book on the subject of "Celtic music", (but I'm sorry to say that I have forgotten the title of the book. I really want to read it again!), where I learnt that the Celtic music is not only from Ireland, but also from; Scotland, Wales, Isle of Man, Cornwall, Northen France (Breton) and Northen Spain (Galicia). Also within the Celic music counts countries with plenty of imigrants from those countries mentioned, like USA (Colorado, North Carolina and more) and Canada (south east). I also read that Celtic Music was forbidden during the English occupation of Ireland and was thus largely forgotten, and some had to be imported from Scotland when it was later being allowed. The Scottish pipe is rather loud to my ears, but that is for a reason, I read, because in the early days clans could send messages with the pipe as it could be heard for several miles in the highlands. That wouldn't work today with youths doing burnouts and power slides all the time. Probably fun for them, but for me the initial interest disappears after a few (houndred) times when having to listen to it. Although I like the Scottish pipe I prefer the Uilleann pipe, but I like the fiddle more then any other instrument, with some examples: - Niel Gow, Lament to his second wife https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GEcRirHlqE - James Scott Skinner, set, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-o0qcXvC60 - Sean McGuire (probably the best celtic fiddler that has ever lived), https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPVvA17zTVo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUOT_PLgMSc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRVksQ9xywQ . -- Last edit: 2017-08-06 13:02:24 |

Nice area - have driven through Dalmally a few times, but never stopped - always on the way to somewhere else. |
