28-minute film about how Britain would try to protect itself from nuclear bomb fallout. Taken from COI Collection Volume Six: Worth the Risk?. Very heavy Cold War paranoia and some complex infrastructure and gizmos but underneath it's pretty much just an update on WW2 air raid wardens, so about as much use as a luminous sun-dial. Can be seen here, but only recommended if you enjoy watching really long-winded public information films. Reject airfield fire engine and Land Rover - no other view Stuff: - the monitoring HQ is an underground bunker disguised as this bungalow - if nukes were dropped on Blighty the HQ would receive a coded instruction to play this pre-recorded message from a pre-recorded BBC vinyl LP that the world was about to end so everyone should stay indoors - 24 hour clock and the alarm system - missiles |
