27 minute visual summary of everything English - which as usual is very London-biased - accompanied by a voiceover which is just a series of pompous historic and literary quotations about Englishness with no direct explanation of the images. But it's a fascinating selection of sequences, very well compiled and high quality footage. Lots of trains, ships and planes as well. Taken from BFI/COI Collection Vol 5: Portrait of a People 2-DVD set, and is the final film from that set. Design studio - possibly a technical college classroom rather than a manufacturer?? Other stuff: - royal decapitation was still being practiced in 1970 - Birmingham Bull Ring - much changed now - the long-gone days when brake-lining brands were important enough to be advertised on the side of buses (no connection with Lord of The Rings). -- Last edit: 2016-09-26 01:08:39 |

'Design Studio' could also be an independant design consultant; Ogle Design, Letchworth or Lotus Engineering, (rather than Lotus Cars) Norfolk. |
