Quote Ten Pound Poms (or Ten Pound tourists) is a colloquial term used in Australia and New Zealand to describe British citizens who migrated to Australia and New Zealand after the Second World War. The Government of Australia initiated the Assisted Passage Migration Scheme in 1945,[1][2] and the Government of New Zealand initiated a similar scheme in July 1947.[3] The Australian government arranged for assisted passage to Australia on chartered ships and aircraft.

The migrants were called Ten Pound Poms due to the charge of £10 in processing fees to migrate to Australia.[4]

Completed. Interesting context and reasonably watchable, but cliched soap opera plots and tendency to cram in too many "social issues" without giving them enough depth. Left a few storylines hanging at end of S1 and introduced a new coachload of arrivals, so clearly setting things up for a 2nd series.

Lots of vehicles also used here.

The Arcadia and the Fairmore are the same ship, digitally recoloured.

S2 (6 eps, set in 1957 and continuing seamlessly from S1) now completed. Similar to S1 - easily watchable, well photographed, good locations, some interesting characters and plotlines, lovely scenery where the sun always shines - but there's some darker themes bubbling away underneath which suggests Australia wasn't a happy country full of opportunity for some with abject poverty, racism, semi-apartheid, and brutal government/police repression surfacing. So cosy Sunday evening television but with a harder edge than I'd expected.

A few plot lines left open for resumption if they do a third series ...

They've obviously taken period car sourcing seriously with a juicy selection to enjoy, but lots of plate witchcraft - some cars change plates whenever they feel like it, and most plates are dud - very few hits on the NSW check site. And after a bit it becomes noticeable that almost everything is pristine gleaming restos - hardly any shabby stuff which you'd expect to see as daily drivers.

Some stuff:
- London blitz

- that boat from S1 is recoloured and renamed yet again - now Apollo Cross

- lovely choo-choo line in ep 2.05
