Very sincere but strange film about the role of the Ministry of Pensions in helping disabled ex-forces victims from WW2. Follows the experience of a now-legless RAF glider pilot through therapy, fitting of artificial legs - starting with short stumpy "peg legs", then proper walking legs, etc and then trauma therapy through to getting a job. Lots of fairly blunt footage (to coin a phrase) of amputees undergoing training to regain fitness in hospital gymnasiums - very distant from anything imaginable today. Odd mixture of regimented training regimes as if still in military service but kindly attitudes. Then later some bizarre invalid tricycle races and competitions. Fascinating in its way for how attitudes then were so different - perhaps inevitably so - from today's more sanitised sensitivities. imdb says 1949 film date, DVD says 1950 Intriguing tow-truck at 01-28, but this is best view "Conducted rambles" around London, and a wheelbarrow with wheel design which clearly inspired some of today's pimpmobiles Traffic lights for rjluna |

Planes for impdb - but most of these are actually gliders - so you can decide eligibility or not. Basic plot is lead character was RAF glider pilot for March 1945 Rhine landings, so lots of archive footage (grainy) mixed in with static reconstruction (1949/50, sharper quality) sequences of surviving glider (so unused??) on the ground. Various tow planes seen, and lots of captures posted because I guess this is fairly unusual opportunity. Also noted that the jeep entry is from a reconstruction of the glider crash - so these things carried vehicles as well as soldiers. |

The gliders absolutely carried jeeps! Often the "airborne" jeeps were stripped of essentials like windscreen, bumpers, spare tires. extra hardware, etc...anything that would save weight. |

Eligibles, of course! ... nice and interesting pics of these gliders themselves, or from their cockpit,of with their towing aircraft Short Stirling, or HP Halifax. |
