![]() 3 part Channel 4 political thriller from 1987 - now regarded as a semi-legendary cult series, but probably now more because it's virtually unobtainable since broadcast than because of any lasting quality - it definitely is not for instance Edge of Darkness standard. The very silly and largely incomprehensible plot involves something about Irish terrorism in Glasgow being linked with a Scottish independence army (now in 2014 we get a referendum instead) and overseen by Brond (a ruthless shadowy spook played by Stratford Johns) with John Hannah as the innocent student who accidentally becomes involved after seeing Brond push a child off a bridge. Only source I could find was home-made DVD from VHS transfer, so captures are inevitably low quality. Short youtube extract from middle of ep1 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idwuGOhHTL0 . Filmed In Glasgow's West End (in and around the University campus) and South Side, plus a brief sequence in episode 3 at Harthill services on the M8 between Glagow and Edinburgh (no useable captures). Memorable semi-operatic Bill Nelson/La Scala theme music - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2T4kXDQauQ - they also use a version of Canteloube's Song of the Auvergne - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xog2VgxbsmE . |
