Another compilation of archive footage for London, this one with excellent soundtrack by St Etienne. imdb gives release date for film of 2013, but premiere was Oct 2014 and DVD finally released Sept 2015. Uses footage from 1950-80 taken from a huge range of sources (BFI, COI, British Transport Films, other documentaries and even a few normal films - many of which are familiar from other imcdb entries and sometimes slip in bits from places which are not London) to give a very impressionistic portrait of London and its people; although not a history lesson, it shows how things happened and evolved in the lives of people. Fascinating and some superb imagery - an intriguing and subtle counterpart to London - The Modern Babylon. Entry originally opened with captures from trailer in Jan 2015 - now completely replaced from full film on DVD. Absolutely packed with vehicles - have tried to rationalise as much as possible, combining pages etc - but this is still only a selection of what can be spotted with a keen eye. -- Last edit: 2015-09-20 22:32:36 |

Where did you find this one? Is it on DVD? |

^ - yes - just released. This is the only source - https://saintetienne.greedbag.com/buy/how-we-used-to-live-dvd-only-1/ - so far, but it may spread more widely. |

A selection of night-time banger racers in sequence after 38-20 - mainly BMC Farina Oxford/Cambridge as far as I can make out, with maybe a Zephyr Mk3 in there as well. Last thumb red is Cortina Mk1. There's a whole batch of things in a five-minute DVD extra called "Unused Test Sequences". Decided not to create main pages, but open to special pleading if any of them are interesting enough. - a school project Mini Mk1 or Mk2-based something with 4-wheel steering - Southbrook school, seems to read "Town Car + A Half" on back. Number plate looks SCS UT or similar - almost certainly a show plate, whatever it actually says - a long sequence from one film focussing on young bloke walking down street as a red bike with chromed bits runs past him and parks at a cafe with lots of other bikes. Also has XK 150, Zephyr Mk2 and Zodiac Mk2 - some footage from this film which was based in Leeds/West Yorkshire, so maybe explaining why it was rejected - a Citroen Safari, Saab 95 estate and Alfa 1750 Berlina amongst others ... taken from here; that film also provided pictures in this same rejected collection of the Cortina GXL posted in comments on this page - and a Hover Hawk hovercraft Seems a US firm, but there was UK assembly in Peterborough 1969-71 or thereabouts. The sequence nearly fooled me - it zooms about a bit on river (during which Hover Hawk lettering is just about readable) then jumps to it apparently driving off with rear lights and SUD 135L as if road registered/legal. But realised on 3rd viewing that it's actually being trailered by a van and has a hung-on lightboard. |

Some pictures which fascinated me Some great faces (the girl in the comedy specs has been posted before somewhere. Probably by me ... ) Big views, but too distant to be worth posting anything from them and/or I didn't see anything special |
