Quote It was filmed in Vancouver, according to the IMDB, but the setting appears to be the UK. Some of the locations have been chosen because they look passably English, with mock-Tudor timber framed houses, and the Routemaster bus is an obvious British icon:

Most of the cars have British-style number plates, and the three-star Mini Cooper is right-hand drive. Some of the cars have French plates presumably re-used from a previous film -- the crew probably ran out of British plates and reckoned that the French ones were similar enough.


I suppose we'll have to ask coopey, who contributed the pictures. Looking at the IMDB, most of the actors appear to be American or Canadian, but they might be putting on English accents.

 I watched the trailer and the accents are American, so I'm still confused. :)

The voice-over says "In a town that's soccer-mad...", so maybe everyone in town puts British plates on the cars because they're so "soccer-mad". It makes about as much sense as any other explanation. :D

 I originally thought the title said snoop dogg: the movie :D anyway, it's obviously meant to be Britain except it's called football here, the Econoline is a Transit, and you never see some of the cars in the car park

 I like it how the number plates are just stuck onto the cars.. Obviously a low-budget film attempting to be set in the UK even though all the european cars used save the Mini are USA/N. American spec one.. :??:

Like on the Subaru, where a British plate obviously won't fit into the recess. You can see the same problem on some of the cars in Alias.

As for low budget, I would have thought that filming in the UK would be cheaper, unless the Canadian and/or British Columbia tax incentives (it was filmed in Vancouver) brought the cost below what it would have been in the UK.

There's a sequel which, according to one user comment on the IMDB, was "shot in a fictitious Scottish town in California". :lol:

 I found the trailer for the sequel, Soccer Dog: European Cup, and saw the orange BMW 2002 in the background of one shot. As well as that, the Routemaster appears on the poster/cover design. So I'm beginning to think that this is the film coopey watched. :)

 Going by these pictures, this has to be the most piss-poor attempt in recreating a British location. All the cars are LHD! I mean, even in British Columbia in Canada, there is a good lot of used RHD Japanese imported cars they could have used to make it look somewhat authentic.

And did they run out of fake British plates so they used French plates?

 The first Soccer Dog (which coopey originally thought this was) film was made in Canada but I think this one was filmed in the US. The IMDB doesn't have a locations page, but a company called Hollywood Caterers is listed under "Other companies". And a user review says "Shot in a fictitious Scottish town in California". :)

In Canada you can import more or less anything if it's at least fifteen years old, but in the US it has to be twenty-five years old.

About the plates, you're right.
