That's correct. I think it has been mentioned before, but NTSC digital video is 720x480 pixels. This is because televisions have rectangular pixels. However, computers have square pixels. As a result, 720x480 will look stretched out. The codec in the computer's media player should adjust the video to the proper aspect ratio. The problem is if you then use the media player's "screenshot" function (eg. Alt+i in Media Player Classic). This will capture the image in the 720x480 ratio, and not in the 640x480 ratio. |
