![]() Very funny BBC4 comedy series (but the humour is understated and subtle) about metal-detecting in Englandshire countryside (filmed in Suffolk) Series 1 (6 eps in 2014), S2 (6 eps being shown at the moment). Page opened mainly because of the very nice TR7 which was used by main character through S1 and continuing into S2, and I might as well post the VW for a new character who arrived for S2. Not otherwise very car heavy, and nothing so far which is particularly interesting enough to deserve a full entry, so I'm not going any further (unless there is later stuff which deserves posting). But if anyone likes subtle character humour, it is an excellent programme. |

One of the best TV series I have ever seen, up there with Fawlty Towers . ( although of a much different humour) Just binge watched all three series on BBC I Player. But each series is only six half hour episodes. |

Agreed. It was a diamond in the dust. |

Yes it was hidden gold. 'What ya got ? Ring pull Tizer 1985' 'We can't find the Finds Table.' 'Next weeks talk Monster Munch Packets.' 'Pub?' -- Last edit: 2020-02-08 10:24:16 |

In case anyone's looking at UK festive TV listings this year for something/anything worth watching, there's an unexpected feature-length Xmas special due on BBC2, 26 Dec, 21.00 hrs. Apparently brand new content, not a re-hash of previous series. |

Hopefully the highlight of Christmas TV. |

Adding 2022 Xmas Special. Unclear what ep number to give it, as it suddenly popped up 5 years after S3 finished. imdb ducked out of assigning a number, just calling it "Special", but for our system, I'll number it ep4.00.![]() Still very funny, with the same subtle humour as before, but making it into a feature length episode means it has to follow a proper story, so doesn't quite have the light touch of the short episode format. But as hoped above, it was the highlight of this festive TV season. |

I enjoyed watching that "special", but something didn't feel right, and it wasn't just Lance's unusual behaviour: making this episode meant methodically destroying Series 3's perfect happy end. The fixer-upper cottage? Gone. Andy's new professional horizons? Gone. The truce with Simon & Garfunkel? Gone. It's still a good episode, but it wasn't necessary. |

Agree. It also had the feel of being a Public Service Information film, designed to explain how the process and legislation for metal detecting works, as a response to the rapid growth of the hobby in the last few years and to encourage detectorists to fully declare their discoveries and demonstrate how the system does reward them for their efforts. |

7 out of 10 a bit disappointed. But standard of series so high it would be hard to match. Raising money to save the village hall seems such a cliche ! I have read somewhere ( but now can find no reference to it ) the fixer up cottage really did burn down ! -- Last edit: 2023-01-16 12:37:33 |
