I spent one night in a cell in a police station in Soho. It was no fun.

XLH 22? Ford were making Zephyrs between June and December 1959, but they weren't that shape.

Not 3 year old stock, though. Zephyr Mk 2 introduced in February 1956.

In the days before the DVLA and so-called 'age-related' registrations, it's likely the owner had bought it abroad - say with the Forces or some other overseas attachment - and re-imported it in 1959, whereupon the LCC or whatever issued it with a new registration.
