Another Children's Film Foundation film - this one is thoroughly bonkers: "The quaint village of Byway will be bulldozed to make way for a motorway until alien outcast Kadoyng arrives from Outer Space to help.". Main village scenes are Denham in Buckinghamshire.

- Kadoyng's space rocket - the kids tease Kadoyng that it looks like a giant easter egg. Which it does

imdb trivia says "Kadoyng's spacesuit and spaceship interior props are leftovers from Gerry Anderson's UFO TV series, which had finished filming at Pinewood the year before."

- compulsory CFF dog
[Image: dog.7.jpg]
... but unusual that it's not the soppy family pet

- building a motorway - film must have had an impressive budget to do all this ....

I wonder if Douglas Adams was subconsciously inspired by this plot when he wrote the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in the late '70s.

Everthing upgraded now I found a full copy.

I can't remember enough detail from HHGttG to be precise, but there's a lot of ideas in this film which follow through, so good call. The other film this reminded me of for the basic plot underneath a radically different dollop of icing was the Railway Children.

The Douglas Adams connection is unmistakable...

The Gerrards Cross Bypass was the last section of the M40 in Buckinghamshire and was completed by the Amey Asphalt/Leonard Fairclough (AMEC) consortium from August 1971 to 1974.

“There’s no point in lying in the path of progress.”

“We’ll see who rusts first!”

Arthur Dent vs the bulldozer.
