The guy who inspired 127 hours got his arm crushed and trapped beneath a boulder and wound up having to break and amputate his own arm with a multitool aka pocket knife (no anesthetic) so he wouldn't die of starvation. After tourniqueting his stump, he made his way to a campsite and got help.
