This is an original DVD documentary, that was filmed at the Beaulieu motor museum in the UK.(presented by ex-'Top gear' ...now 'Fifth gear', racing driver Tiff Needell.)..This is his choice of 20 cars that changed..or influenced the World. It is Not currently listed on the IMDB ...but I have passed the details onto them... and hopefully they will include it ..once verified.! |

Yeah, and contrary to the idiot Clarkson, Tiff can drive cars. |
◊ 2006-05-09 12:47 |
The dvd sleeve says Tiff has over 30 years experience as a race driver.! (unlike Clarkson...who I believe...has none.! ... But has plenty of years of 'talking'.!!) Yep... The current line up of '5th gear' presenters (Tiff, Jason Plato & Vicki.b.henderson) would thrash the 'Top gear'lot on a racing circuit.!! (Clarkson, richard Hammond & 'Captain Slow' James May.!) |

As well as in the intellectual department. |

So Far..with Tiff's list of cars...I can see where he got the idea for Citroen 2cv (the French peoples car),the Trabant (the E.German peoples car)...and maybe the Napier (..his choice as first race-car...but I believe there were other race cars around the same time.!)...The MGB ....ummm ..Not such a good choice.!(I'm not saying it's a bad car.!) ...but a car that changed the world.?? (surely there were other small sporty cheaply priced cars ...which can claim the same as the MGB.? ...previous MG's for example ..TA,TC etc ...cheap sporty cars for the masses) ...and I don't get his choice of the Messerschmitt.??...Why.? ...what has it..or.. did it do.? (there are plenty of three wheeled cars before ..and after it.!..It didn't set any trends, change the style of anyone elses cars.!) ..yes..I like it's looks ...but why include it on this list.? -- Last edit: 2006-05-11 09:27:26 |

Only for the post-war cars. |

Aren't those VW Unknowns called "Beetles"? Or do they have a specific name other than "beetle"? -- Last edit: 2006-05-15 06:01:31 |
◊ 2006-05-15 09:50 |
No, as 'Beetle' is only a nickname used mainly in the USA. In other places different nicknames were used, here is a nice list: http://www.kaeferteam-nuernberg.de/allerlei/internationalebezeichnungen.html The German nickname is 'Käfer'. The original name is just 'Volkswagen' which means 'people's car'. Additionally a type number was used. In later years extra information like 'Standard' or 'Export', again later engine size numbers like '1200', '1300', '1500' were used. |

My choice, too! But in German the words have quite a different association. |

I know - but probably it will be better not to say that here |

"Typ 0" then? They are not referenced as Typ 1, even in early prototypes? |

The very first design of Ferdinand Porsche which was actually built was the Typ 12 made by Zündapp. http://www.hroscklub.com/documents/38/htmlimport_typ12_01.jpg The next was the Typ 32 built by NSU for Porsche. /vehicle_33180-Porsche-Typ-32-1934.html They were followed by the prototypes V1, V2 and V3, the next series of prototypes Typ W30 and Typ W38 and the pre-production vehicles Typ 60. After that the production switch to military vehicles and dozens of variations were made, best know Typ 82 and Typ 166. The last in the line was the Typ 332 running on anthracite coal. There is one very well known post-war model which kept that numbering scheme: the Typ 356. http://www.autotrend.com/pic/2005.jpg |

Thanks for all the nice Landy pictures! You made my day, Steve! Didn't they show the Laird Centaur, a Land-Rover halftrack conversion? Or any of the foreign made models (Minerva, Santana, Tempo)? The Forward Control 101, 109, 110 and Llama? There are so many special models and conversions, it would fill more than one DVD! |
◊ 2006-05-17 15:51 |
Glad you enjoyed them.! ..sorry there were no others (..Don't ask them for foreign models...they'll probably show the Ford Mutt..again.!! ) ...also "SHHHHHHhhhh" ...don't mention 'Tempo' ...someone else gets too excited by that name.!!) |
◊ 2006-05-17 15:58 |
I guess there must be a video/dvd of Land-Rovers.? (..you would be the one to know.?)..I would think it a good chance there is.! I've recently been checking through some of my old videos ...found a few unusual car documentaries ...+ one for Daimler & Humber WWII armoured cars (made in cooperation with the imperial war museum..lots of old footage.!) ..Also some old race car stuff & classic motorcycles (..don't believe they are on DVD ...or have an IMDB number...but definately were available on Video at one point.!) |

Do you, by chance, mean this 80s box styling US car which is based on a lengthend chassis of the European Ford Escort? The one with the Mazda engine? |
◊ 2006-05-17 17:18 |
I do have a few LR videos. So far I have only contibuted pictures from DVD for the better quality ... and I still have many that I want to add. Just ordered another one which shows a Rumpler Tropfenwagen! Interesting! Get going!! |

I hate Tiff Needell. He's jealous of Jeremy Clarkson |

These cars are really so amazing. I wish I could have even just one of these. However, with our current economic situation maybe cars will only be just a dream. Automakers are experiencing bankruptcy just like GM and Chrysler. Chrysler bankruptcy has been subject of debate and rumor for months, but it isn't speculative anymore. A Chrysler bankruptcy is now inevitable, and more to the point, they have already filed. The Chrysler bailout, several billion dollars worth, wasn't enough debt relief, so they have filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, as they couldn't get cash advance loans large enough to stop it. The government, now a primary stakeholder, has urged a prearranged bankruptcy, so that the filing is short lived and the company reemerges as a leaner, meaner animal ready to compete in the market. The Chrysler bankruptcy, while unpleasant, might provide them with the debt consolidation they need. |
