Au choix, sauf l'Austin-Healey référencée par ailleurs. |

To the left of the A-H is an Austin A40 Somerset. To the right of the Citroen Light 15 is a Spridget - which model? The old car could be a prewar Morris 8 - either pre-Series or Series 1. In front of that a Triumph Herald convertible, in front of that an Austin A30 van (quite rare) and to its right a Frogeye Sprite. On the far right lower note the difference between an Austin A30 and Austin A35 (rear window size). |

The 'Spridget' to the left of the VW looks strange to me. Frog-eyed Sprite bonnet but the rear looks wider as the MkII Sprite or MkI Midget, does anyone agree? |

Would make another nice parking-lot image. |

I don't think that the convertible in front of the Morris 8 is a Triumph Herald, as suggested above. It looks to me like a Rootes Group Audax convertible. If the contrasting stripe down the side is really the shape that it appears to be (and not the result of shadows or reflections), then I think that it's a Singer Gazelle series II or IIA from 1957-8 (so far as I know, there was no external distinction between these versions). I can't find a rear view of a series II Gazelle convertible, but, for the general shape from the rear, compare this view of a Series I: Link to "www.flickr.com" ; for the Series II/IIA side treatment: http://www.flickr.com/photos/anachrocomputer/2151176057/in/photostream/ ; for the rear of a Series II/IIA saloon, showing that the contrast colour did not extend across the back of the car, as in the later series III: Link to "www.flickr.com" . -- Last edit: 2013-05-18 17:35:38 |

^ agree Audax convertible (also the hood shape is correct, and not Herald-like) and I'd go for Gazelle as well. But I think it's S1 to match your - very useful - photo - the paint below waistline looks solid colour, not a flash as S2/S2A (which as you say were externally identical). For interest, the UON 566 plate on your S1 photo was Birmingham issue, May 1957, so clearly within S1 period. |

^ Very belatedly, I agree that it's most likely a series I Gazelle - I originally thought that I could see a series II-shaped contrast flash but I think that you are right that the whole of the side of the car below the chrome strip is in the darker colour, and what I thought was a flash is an illusion caused by a reflection. Unfortunately the Flickr photostream that contained the rear view of series I Gazelle convertible to which I linked in my previous post has migrated to Ipernity, and the Gazelle photo hasn't reappeared there, so far as I can tell; if and when it does I will try to update the link. |

^ We've now got a couple of good S2 convertible rear views - /vehicle_660776-Singer-Gazelle-Convertible-1958.html , /vehicle_592718-Singer-Gazelle-Convertible-1958.html - but no new S1. I'll grab this S1 for a new page as reference. -- Last edit: 2014-01-04 00:06:14 |
