I'm sorry, but I cannot see if it really has a side strip. It can be a reflection as well https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e3/Mercedes_SE_Coup%C3%A9.jpg . I believe it is a 220 or 250 instead because it is also lacking wheel arch embellishers, otherwise a standard fitting on the 300. Also: the 300 had air suspension and a (very costly) alloy engine and thus was called [W 112] to not be confused with the 220, 250, 280 [W 111] models.
