It would have turn signals at edge of headlight units, so more likely HQ. However, to compare to HJ>HZ series bodies, this rear door frame and tail shape is much more like an Opel Rekord/Commodore. |

This looks as if it was filmed in South Africa, so could it be an Opel? |

By the door handles it's definitely based on the Opel Rekord/Commodore models from 1971 or 1972 onwards. They had grooves added because of problems getting the smooth polished appearance. These door handles were only used on this model (including the Vauxhall Victor [FE] which was the same chassis). I'm not familiar with the Australian version of the Rekord/Commodore. So could it still be a Holden? -- Last edit: 2007-04-25 13:09:23 |

It looks like there's a yellow SA plate under the front bumber, so could it be a SA-assembled Chevrolet? |

Similar to that will exist the Chevrolet(ZA)2500/4100(Opel Rekord[D]coque,Vauxhall Victor[FE] 2.5 lt.or Chevy 6 cyl.4.1 lt.engines)of 1972 to 1977(since 1978 was replaced by Chevrolet(ZA)Rekord,with Opel Rekord[E]coque) |

I am quite sure it must be an SA manufactered GM vehicle.... IMDB: Filming locations for Safari 3000 (1982): Africa So a Chevrolet Rekord? -- Last edit: 2007-04-25 20:09:28 |

Indeed ! But it's not a Holden, it's a GM Ranger. It was built and sold in South Africa and Belgium. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranger_(GM) |

Belgian-made Ranger use 1972 Rekords coque(saloon and coupè,no CarAVans)and Opel Rekord/Commodore engines(models:Ranger 1900,Ranger 2800,no Diesels),made by GM Continental SA of Anvers/Antwerpen thru 1972 to 1977 The sole ZA-made Rangers that I knew use a modified 1967 Opel Rekord[C]coques(saloon and coupè)and Chevy engines under the bonnet(made thru 1968 to 1973);those were identified with numeric codes that indicates CID capacity(like Ranger 130 HC,e.g.) PS was existed also a Swiss-made Ranger, made with same coque and engines of South-African counterparts, but were made by GM Suisse of Biel/Bienne(were made until 1973) -- Last edit: 2007-04-25 23:22:03 |

-- Last edit: 2007-04-26 00:11:11 |

Shouldn't it be listed as "GM Ranger". This is the 2nd generation version based on the Opel Rekord D (1972-77) |
◊ 2007-04-26 20:57 |
Oui mais Vauxhall a son propre logo. Alors que les Ranger n'avaient que le logo GM sur leur capot. -- Last edit: 2007-04-26 20:57:44 |

Sorry, this is not a Ranger, but a Chevrolet 3800/ 4100. The Ranger looked quite a bit different, see: http://www.dyna.co.za/cars/Ranger_69_Station_Wagon_Grey_sff1.jpg http://www.answers.com/topic/opel-rekord The Ranger was a rework of the Rekord C (*NOT* D) built in ZA, and had the distinction of being the first vehicle to meet local content requirements. |
