Bedford VAS? Don't know who's the coachbuilder though -- Last edit: 2007-04-26 17:28:59 |

Looks too long for a VAS - if it's a Bedford I'd say it's an SB, but it's very difficult to say. |

Surely not a Bedford at all?? The front axle is set back and, looking at the mouldings at the bottom of the panels, isn't it a Weymann 'Fanfare' body?? In which case it's likely to be an early AEC Reliance or a Leyland Leopard or Royal Tiger, perhaps. |

I couldn't decide whether Weymann Fanfare or mid 1950s Duple - as I usually say, if we could only see the registration......I think it's too old for a Leopard, but could be Tiger Cub or Royal Tiger, or Reliance.... |

Hmmm, I'm pretty convinced that those are the Weymann mouldings around the bottom of the panels - the same as the Standerwick and Silver Star Atlanteans |

A clearer view of the lower panel mouldings maybe shown here? /vehicle.php?id=123718 |

Without knowing anything about the subject, I guess you are comparing it with something like this example on an Weymann bodied AEC Reliance? To me they look the same. http://www.sct61.org.uk/sw1032.htm |

I am deeply touched by your faith in my knowledge. However....... It certainly could be a Weymann Fanfare, but which chassis it is bolted to is unclear, but not a Bedford IMO. |

Having pored over this long and hard, I'm reasonably confident it's an ex Southdown Leyland Tiger Cub PSCU1/2 with Weymann Fanfare body new in 1960. At a guess it's XUF140, which was one of a batch sold off to Wimpey (contractors). Compare this of XUF141: http://stuarts-world-buses.smugmug.com/keyword/rally/i-xbRpPfm/A |

Looks good to me. I'm normally a great fan of anything Southdown, but this looks sort of........frumpy. |
