Truly spectacular use of 3? Euro BMW E28 Police cars. Great early (`82-`84) example E28's (notice the nicer front air-dam compared to later `85-`88 models, and the early chrome wheel covers). Could be a 518i, 520i, or 525e. Amazing stunts and aggressive driving! A spin-out or two, fish-tails, etc. These early, small-engined E28's sure do over-steer. Worth seeing! The chase last about 3-5 min. max. |

According to "Junkman" the Bavarian police used 525's, and never had 518's. So I'd say it's a 525i. Here is a video-link to this chase scene with the E28 Polizei Autos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89bnQUG57aQ |

I just looked at this scene: when one of the E28's spins around from reverse, you can see "518" on the trunk lid. Odd it doesn't say "518i". Perhaps one of the cars was a 518, and the others were 525's or 520's. Who knows. |

I think that they actually aren't 525i. I've seen also this scene and we can read "518" on one of them. Then, those seem wheels of a 518 (carburettors or injection) or a 520i. |

Theese cars were used by the west german police to chase Bond on his way to a american air force base. |

"N" would be Nurnburg IIRC....would be a long chase,as most USAF bases were quite a bit West of Bavaria?(Hessen,Rheinland-Pfalz,Saarland) Was an -Army- airfield or two in Bavaria, though?? (Like Ansbach) |

@Buc: don't trust in that plate. It's a fake. N for Nürnberg is correct, also the combinations only with a number - but police-cars never hat numbers starting with "6". Usually they had a "3", sometimes a "7" |

Sure, as it's just a lame 518. |

Does this BMW have air conditioning? |

At this time I'd say it would be unlikely. It certainly wouldn't be something fitted as standard to the car. |

It was in Germany extremely rare back then. And never in/for police cars. Uusally they have the lowest trim-line. Sometimes stronger engines, but never any luxoury for the passengers |

The US air base footage was shot in the UK, so don't overlook the possibility of there being two sets of E28s for the film. -Kurt |
