Toyota Truck, not Dodge D-Series |

The Dodge-like centerpiece on the grille threw me off, sorry |

You've yet to learn a lot about cars my young padawan. |

I've never seen a 1984-88 Toyota Truck with a radiator-grille like that one. And I live in an area with hundreds of these still on the road. |

Agree, it seems that grille was common on the 1984-89 Toyota 4Runners and everything else matches. |

only the 1987-1989 ones, 1984-1986 had a grille like Link to "www.toyota-4runner.org" looking at Google, i see a few pick-ups with the grille on our subject.. special edition or owner's change ? -- Last edit: 2017-05-04 05:27:36 |

I believe the 4x4 Trucks received them. |

This grille debuted in 1986 for the Truck models while other ones of the same year still had the older grille. 4Runner models received it for 1987. |

ah.. i think a part of the confusion comes from my book, which in those years joined both Truck & 4Runner together in order to save pages and said 1987 for grille change, without saying which of them got it ( no change for the 1986 book for grille but it might had occured after the book was printed ) is it normal that i can't find any 1986 with this grille on Google ? -- Last edit: 2017-05-04 07:47:41 |

I can't find any 84-88 Toyota Trucks with this grille except ones that are "slammed" or heavily modified, suggesting that any Toyota Trucks with this grille were modified by owner and got a grille transplant from a 4Runner. |

Both the 1987 and 1988 brochures show all the 4x4 models with this grille: And BTW, this could very well be a 4Runner, you're the one who classified it "Pickup" when you thought it was a Dodge. I'm just showing you that the Trucks did have this grille. And Karoomay, like Baube, I haven't been able to find any 1986 models with this grille. The 1986 brochure shows the 3x2 pattern grille: -- Last edit: 2017-05-04 11:08:47 |

so.. no matter Truck or 4Runner it is a 1987-1988.. |

You guys really like rubbing it in that I horribly misidentified this one at first We never get a better angle of this vehicle, and given its stance I thought it was a pickup. 4Runner-esque SUV hadn't occurred to me at the time, but now I think it's actually quite likely. At the very least, we should probably at least list it as 1987. |
◊ 2017-05-04 14:53 |
we don't usually figure a 4Runner without its top because its kind of rare to see one without it |

I could've sworn that in the past I was able to find more results that showed Toyota pickups with the updated grille and plates that returned as 1986 models but now I can hardly find any on Google images. As Baube suggested, those listed as 1986 models with the newer grille easily could have had their original grille replaced, not to mention that some of them were probably wrongly listed as so. Sorry, my bad on making things more confusing. |

i guess we have to turn the 1986 ones into 1987 ( unless specified by plate ) .. was it the same for other markets than NA ? @ karoomay : no problem my friend.. |

No one is rubbing anything in, just trying to get the correct ID. I only mentioned it to show why it was ID'd as a pickup and that I wasn't against a 4Runner ID. Sometimes it's better to leave the ID blank and let the board figure things out. |
