I'm not sure about "extremely rare", that's more like a Plymouth Scamp GT haha.

Haha yeah that's a bit like calling a EU-spec Camry hyperrare.

No Joke: I can count how many of this model BMW I've seen in the US on one hand?? So scarce I'd even go as far as saying they might all have been private exports?

Very rare in the US. It was that one that was fitted in Europe with wide rectangular headlights and in the US with quad round ones.
Anyway it was officialy exported by BMW to the USA.

I've only seen a Scamp GT once on Ebay before and never again. I've never seen one in person and I've been to Seattle and Portland which are goldmines for old rare cars, in one day in Seattle I saw four different IH Scouts and a Detomaso Pantera and another day the only FJ55 Land Cruiser I've seen in person. There are still no Scamp GTs found on this site and I've been following Old Parked Cars a blog of the rarest cars two brothers can find in Portland Oregon. Out of seven years they still have never found a Scamp GT in person. They even added a Toyota Stout before ever finding one. I would say after all of this that it's genuinely categorized as extremely rare. You could get killed by a shark before you would find one in public.

midnight wrote I've only seen a Scamp GT once on Ebay before and never again.

If you're interested, I found 3 on various Craigslist, one in Kentucky, one on Minnesota and one in Michigan:
https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/cto/d/rare-plymouth-scamp-gt/6207323957.html
https://duluth.craigslist.org/cto/d/plymouth-scamp-gt/6217882962.html
https://brainerd.craigslist.org/ctd/d/plymouth-scamp/6210438419.html

Both the BMW and the Scamp are rare cars. By comparison, I found 25 Dodge Rampages.

Similar search for the BMW only turned up one:
