Vauxhall Victors seem to be a bit difficult not to identify but to name. The early 57/58 model is the F, Series 1. February 1959 offered a panel work tidy up, still Model F, Series 2, and then the final facelift in August 1960 which does not seem to be called the series 3, but was still Model F, discontinued in late 1961. September 1961 introduced the Model FB, which lasted until a facelift and a 1594cc engine in summer 1963, and was discontinued in 1964 in favour of the Model FC, also known as the Victor 101. Not to mention VX4/90s, and the differing trim levels and estate cars adding to the confusion. |

Vauxhall (and Bedford truck) relied purely on model years AFAIK; Mk numbers or series not generally being applied only '19xx MY facelift' in my experience as a young apprentice. I guess it was an American approach? Later from about 1967 GM also applied standardised model numbers starting '9' for Vauxhall/Bedford in addition to FE/HC etc., but I am not even certain those were modified in facelift versions. I guess we are free to apply 'series 1' etc. if it helps to clarify these model year facelifts. http://vauxpedianet.uk2sitebuilder.com/ is the most accurate and most comprehensive source of data. -- Last edit: 2017-09-07 14:10:42 |

If we start doing this, it should for consistency apply to the 101 FC as well, which had a small mid-life facelift (simpler trim, new grille). And then add in the Cresta/Velox/Wyvern [E] and Cresta/Velox [PA] (steady stream of annual changes - how many "Series" would we need in each case??) and PB (one mid-life facelift - new grille). It's a small anomaly to single out the Victor [F] for Series separation, but it works OK and everyone's been using it happily since the site's early days. I don't have a strong opinion either way, but changing from our current policy would mean a fair bit of protocol discussion and then updating entries, so would need eager volunteers. |

I would vote to keep things as they are. I think the first Victor [F] could be considered a special case. The rather extreme US inspired styling was not merely refreshed or facelifted but applied changes that suited the UK (or European) market better marking a definite styling change; hence Series 1 and Series 2. |
