from Wiki: Postman Pat's van is a small 'box' type van, with the registration, "Pat 1". For the first eight episodes of series one, Postman Pat's "bright red van" featured a generic crown-style symbol, which was designed to be similar to the official Royal Mail symbol. When the Royal Mail gave the programme makers permission to use their official symbol, the crown was replaced with the proper Royal Mail symbol. In later episodes, Pat uses a slightly longer minibus version of the van, which could carry passengers and freight, called "Pat 2", and from series 4 onwards his post bus was painted yellow to become the school mini bus. |

Not Just made for movie?? |
◊ 2007-05-29 01:17 |
Doesn't mean it can't be modeled after a real vehicle. |

Maybe We should change our name to "internet movie, if it has wheels we will list it, database" I expect any day to see a 3 star Tonka toy. -- Last edit: 2007-05-29 01:30:28 |
◊ 2007-05-29 20:07 |
Yeah, adding this box on wheels is a bit too much, IMHO. -- Last edit: 2007-05-29 20:08:00 |

I have a DVD of Bob the Builder... |
◊ 2007-05-29 20:50 |
....but it's obvious. Box on wheels, Royal Mail van, it's based on the Sherpa. Ultra-short-wheelbase version. |

First we will see a Bobby-Car: Actually a kiddies toy used for downhill racing with speeds up to 100 kph (60 mph)! This started in 1994 in a jolly mood ... well, rather in a drunken mood, in a small German village and since last year a motorised league has been established! If you like to take part: http://www.bobbycarclub.de/ |

To antp >> Antoine, based on these comments, maybe we should remove "Postman Pat". What do you think? -- Last edit: 2007-05-29 22:05:57 |
◊ 2007-05-29 22:23 |
Well, I would keep it. We have to think about the next generation of IMCDb visitors No, serious, it is a vehicle, 'Made for Movie' category, and a model like we have listed many before (Gozilla films, Dune, ...). I don't see a problem in this. |
◊ 2007-05-30 17:51 |
I agree that we should keep it, but just because this one is a major and well known vehicle. Where I disagree, it is for listing "made for movie" vehicles that do not have a real role. As there are not many model cars that have big role, i.e. at least three stars, we can keep those that still look like a real vehicle (as example of things that I would not list, the soapbox cars from a movie whose I forgot the name). |

Fully agree. That's why I only listed Pat's van and not the other vehicles from the cartoon. |

Looks like a Lawil http://digilander.libero.it/automobili/lawil/lawil.htm |

which had been sold as Willam in France in the late sixties |
◊ 2007-06-01 15:30 |
I have always thought that Pat's car was based on the Volkswagen Fridolin. I believe this car was actually used to deliver post with as well, just not in the UK... |
◊ 2007-06-01 15:41 |
Oh for God's sake, Postman Pat's van is not based on anything, it's just a made up model in a kiddies program, anyone could tell that! It's ridiculous listing this and it should be taken off. wrenchhead's comment about renaming this site to the "internet movie if it has wheels we'll list it database" is spot-on, we have to draw the line somewhere or we'll look like a bunch of morons. Maybe listing this is just a joke and if it is it should be taken off after a certain amount of time. -- Last edit: 2007-06-01 15:43:34 |
◊ 2007-06-01 18:33 |
Okay, you're right. I meant inspired by instead of based on. But the Fridolin does look like it. And they were build for delivering post... http://www.speer-fuchs.de/fridolin.jpg |
◊ 2007-06-02 01:05 |
It is not more ridiculous than many others. This vehicle being well known, it can be mentioned even if "made for movie". It has more reason to be mentioned than many of the "made for movie" or role-less model cars. |

I'm starting to upload 'Bob the Builder' soon |

Maaaan, I have all the DVD's! It's a great show!! |
◊ 2007-09-03 21:06 |
And if I'm right, each vehicle has its own name! |
◊ 2007-09-03 21:11 |
I hope you two have children that watch it, rather than watching it by yourself! I did watch Postman Pat once (when I was about 4 or 5) but by the time Bob the Builder came along I was far too old for it, thus I've never actually watched it. |
◊ 2007-09-03 21:30 |
Yes I have. (2 actually)... |
◊ 2007-09-03 21:35 |
Who is the Land Rover-freak overe here in this forum? He should watch the East German "Sandmännchen" (sandman). Sometimes the GDR-sandman drives a Trabant Tramp (Kübelwagen, originally made for the East German Army), but once it drives a Land Rover! Strange, that before the wall felt down, the GDR-TV has created a "capitalistic" car for it's children-programme. |

Thanks for the info, Ingo! I never heard of that. They might have used it because Honecker owned a specially converted 109" Series III as a hunting car. The East-German dictator and his criminal entourage preferred quality cars like Volvo, Citroën or Land-Rover. In 1985 he had three Range-Rover converted by Rometsch (West-Berlin!) as open-top hunting cars. http://www.wods.dk/rangeRover/hi/conversion/r-hist-conv-honecker.htm |

A friend of mine, who collects Range Rover (besides his K 70-collection) has seen this car, but it was too expensive for him. Do you know, why they have used French and Swedish cars? Because these countries weren't in the NATO. One of these guys, the economy-"expert" Günter Mittag owned also one of the powerfullest car of the 70ies (Made in Western Germany), Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9. I've seen it on a photo. |

It's RHD if that helps. |
◊ 2012-09-04 03:15 |
All these years I've believed this shouldn't be listed, because I thought it looked nothing like any real vehicle. But now, I've found out who made it, microcar builder Willam: http://m.flickr.com/#/photos/kahuczech/5675642849/ Seriously, I still think having this listed is a joke |

Or rather this, as we are "Internet Movie Car Database" : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roary_the_Racing_Car Anyway, it would have been pointless to identify those little-kiddies cars, but I did xD: Roary is a Formula Ford from the 1970s Maxi is a Renault (?) from the 1980s. Cici is a 2002+ Nissan Micra Tin Top is a Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Drifter is a Toyota Supra (?) Plugger seems to be a Ford Ranger Dragga is a Toyota Supra (?) FB is a 1950s Ford F-150. (?) Zippee is a Piaggio Vespa. Hellie is a Sikorsky S55 James is an Aston Martin DB5 Nick is a Lamborghini Murciélago or Gallardo. Breeze seems to be a kit-car style beach buggy. Loada is a Iveco, (not sure which model.) Conrod is the Holden Commodore V8 used by Team Vodafone. -- Last edit: 2013-10-08 08:01:03 |

More about my last comment, Roary is quite obviously a Formula Ford, the headlights/eyes are a dead giveaway. http://content.worldcarfans.co/2009/1/medium/street-legal-reynard-91f_2.jpg Compare https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:RoaryTheRacingCarFullCharacters.png Maybe I should list RTRC as an April Fool's joke. What do you think? |

F1 cars and lions roar, FFs just sound like angry wasps. So rename to Buzz the Race car?? |
◊ 2014-02-26 19:38 |
Respray him yellow and black. (sorry, but the following phrase does not exist in English) Dann werden wir weiter sehen! Naming him "Buzz the Race Car" might lead to slight confusions with /vehicle_66173-Made-for-Movie.html -- Last edit: 2014-02-26 19:42:06 |

This car also appears in Mr. Bean in the form of a kiddie ride. |
