This bridge is in Lawrence Kansas. Before Mary Henry (played by Candace Hilligoss) sets out for Utah, she parks the Biscayne here and looks over the bridge. |

This original bridge was pretty old & rickety even by the time “Carnival” filmed on it in 1961 (movie was released in ‘62). By 1966 heavy vehicles including school buses were no longer allowed to use it or cross over...as it was deemed unsafe. Around that time a new bridge was constructed near it, and this old one was torn out in 1969. It’s no longer there. When they filmed on it, producers and the director got permission to break one of the old railings & plunge the Chevy into the river...with the understanding they would have the car removed from the river & pay to have the railing repaired. They of course removed the car when done...and it cost them all of $12 to have the railing replaced! I think it’d cost more now...or the county would charge probably quadruple that just to make some money. -- Last edit: 2021-10-24 04:04:44 |
