Birmingham plate, probably factory registered. Seems it was still alive in Sept 2018 ... I guess piano prices have increased since the old TG days??

Seems it was a much-loved example a few years ago, so Richard's mindless vandalism was a bit pathetic. Maybe some rust bubbles underneath the shiny paint in a couple of the captures and during the clip, so may not have been as pristine as it looked.

:/ Why is Hammond destroying the last remnants of the British car industry?

^ Hammond's dad brought one of these back in the day instead of Cortina, Hammond wasn't please with it.

Maybe we should therefore start a list of things for Richard to smash up in the next series??

Yes a Chevrolet Uplander would work well for that list.

Hammond could start a TV show called "Richard Hammond destroy cars"

Episode 1 - the new BMW X7 - as well as being %7~*ing ugly, it's %7~*ing enormous, so he might also need Episode 2 to do it properly.

There could also be a parallel show for James May as the re-assembler - he's done it before - and Richard should have to humiliatingly beg James to reassemble this Allegro back into a fully restored and intact state to make up for his stupid tantrum here. But the X7 could stay wrecked, because no-one will ever love it.

BMW X7 is indeed ugly. Some people do like the X7, I don't. I hate the X7. I want to smash the BMW X7 and yell "You deserve it!". I don't care if I make people cry, I hate that %7~*ing thing. I also want to destroy a Ferrari with a sledgehammer.

I remember the first render of the X7 had me hyped four years before the car came out - the final design looks simply awful.

Still better than an X6 though.

I can understand why Richard didn't like this car. A station wagon that size in the '70s having only two doors is just ridiculous, plus it looks like a hearse. Appropriate, seeing as Richard died inside when he first saw it
Also, the fact that I thought this was a mid-'70s car until I saw it's listed year as 1981.

Also, I would like to add the pre-facelift RAM ProMaster van to that list of cars for Richard to destroy. I would drive a Citroen Ami 6 and a Subaru B9 Tribeca before I'de drive that ugly thing.

Just saw the scene it is (still a bit sad about what happen to the Estate, given it's rare status and it's condition :( )

If I had to choose a car for the hamster to wreck, the [AM] Kia Soul is my 1 choice

My dad is on the ergonomics team at VW Commercial and he hates the Ducato seating position. It's like sitting perfectly perpendicular to the backrest while scraping your head on the far too low roof liner.

I'm sure those scratches will buff right out. But seriously, the damage to it was relatively mild and could be repaired. Now as for those Morris Marinas...

Why did BL not make a 4 door estate, since there was already a 4 door saloon version?
As for as what the hamster should destroy, I'd add the PT Cruiser, Pontiac Aztek, and Fiat Multipla to the list.

I’m putting thoughts in their heads, but the Montego estate was in the range, available with similar power outputs except at the bottom end, and presumably BL expected a better market for the larger car. What with that and the cost of tooling up, maybe engineering problems to get the thing strong enough, plus the tradition of small 2 door estates, Mini, Minor 1000, A40 Farina, they just stuck with 2 doors plus tailgate.

There was also the Maxi, which was, in my opinion, a better car than the Allegro in most respects in its Mk2 form.
