Ep1.01 spectacular grand opening sequence has the 3 Mustangs driving in formation through loads of stuff - very spectacular .. with soundtrack of the Hothouse Flowers (a largely forgotten and largely forgettable Irish 1990s indie band who were basically just a semi-skimmed rip-off of the Waterboys) playing I Can See Clearly Now but somehow it works. Amongst the herd in the California desert were: (did anyone else have the Corgi 409 Forward Control Jeep?) ... and either the biggest VW I've ever seen or a previously unknown colony of Californian desert pixies Any info/explanations on these welcome. |

I'm enjoying GT much more than TG. It's done better with more freedom, and is better thought out - so far the main features seem planned from an idea through to completion, rather than TG who often ran with an unfocussed idea with fingers crossed that it might go somewhere but it often dribbled into a stupid mess with no real direction. And wasn't funny, so they had to keep hamming it up to pretend it was hilarious. For GT they're nailing things much better, although the ep1.04 thing with the "environmental" Discoverys didn't work and the Jordan thing in ep 1.02 was over-extended. But perhaps the best thing is that they look as if they're enjoying themselves again - the banter's more natural, the one-liners are funny - and this makes much better viewing. Ep1.05 was the best thing they've done for a long long time. So it gets a from me. -- Last edit: 2016-12-21 22:51:49 |

I've had a look at the results from the 2017 Hemberg hillclimb, and I managed to identify some of the cars here. https://www.bergrennen-hemberg.ch/fahrer/ranglisten/ Tatuus N.T07, ex-Formula Master. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatuus_N.T07 Peugeot 405 Mi16, maybe an ex-french Super Touring car, with these colours. But it might also be a replica. Reynard 93D, ex-Formula 3000. Reynard 97D, ex-Formula Nippon. |

2 eps so far of S3, and I'm enjoying it. They've dialled down the pointless stupidity but somehow made the banter funnier and more genuine. And they've ditched wasteful padding such as the celebrity waffle sessions, so the whole thing is now tauter and more focussed. Hope they keep it up. |

Excellent Jim Clark tribute in final 20 minutes of ep3.05. One slight quibble - Richard says that Jim had to do a rookies test before being allowed to start the 1965 Indy race (which he won). But he'd already raced there in 1963 (finished 2nd) and 1964 (retired). So did the rookie test story belong to 1963??? |

Ep3.05 discussion about "re-imagined" classics with modern bits and price tags somewhere north of the GDP of a small tropical island - Singer Porsche, Eagle E-Type Speedster - Merc Pagoda with AMG oily bits - Charger with trillions of bhp - Jensen with a Corvette engine (DVLA lists NEH 262M as 6200cc, now SORN since 2015). With Chevy bits it doesn't match the Interceptor R or S main entries here, but could be the same folk wot did it?? Jeremy says he drove it and it was "Literally the coolest car ever made", before being wrecked by an un-named journalist. Ep 3.11 (continued) - filmed in Georgia, then Azerbaijan. More backgrounds - - an absolute orgy of Ladas (or whatever name), particularly in Azerbaijan, for our Lada-ists. This is a small sample ..... - a not-Lada - very rare in rural Azerbaijan - a SAAB double in Tblisi (there were millions of Transits throughout, but I couldn't be bothered) - sad-faced vans in Georgia, and then with tractor in Azerbaijan - truck and bus (both Azerbaijan) - mobile drilling rig (Azerbaijan) so you can drill wherever you want ..... why not make a weekend of it and take a barbecue and some tinnies with a few chums?? Despite some unnecessary bouts of TG-era pointless stupidity, this was a fascinating episode about a journey through some amazing places. |

Thanks but I'll probably leave them alone - they're all too briefly shown to really deserve pages. Most of them are various Le Mans 1967-70, mixed up together, plus a couple of earlier shots for the Ford GT40s. Most interesting are probably the Alpine Renault, the Howmet TX gas turbine, and the Chaparral (2F??). The stationary traffic shots with background smoke are the 1969 1st lap crash when John Woolfe was killed in his private Porsche 917. |

Just some comments 1962 Ford Consul Cortina 225 Pre-production Very rare Cortina 1600 GT Estate - probably ABL 649J which comes up as Aug 70 car. Only available 1969-70 as an unlisted variant from Ford Special Vehicle Operations although not much more than a 1600 Super estate with the GT engine - only external clue was badging. Only a few hundred made (possibly 700) and apparently 7 survive. We have one solitary sighting. There was never any Cortina 2000 Super. This is an E or F plate so 1967-68 Mk2, with a new engine. The only Ford I can think of to provide the badge would be a 1966-ish Corsair, but unsure if this was actually sold as a Super before the 2000E arrived. The only other source I can think of for the badge might be a late Victor FD version. There was a 1964 facelift Victor FB ... and among all the Ford adulation, an unmentioned Magic Minx Moment (S3a-c) .... sometimes the subtlest tributes are the deepest. |

So a new TGT era lies ahead. For me TGT S3 has been a huge improvement on anything else the Trio have done, stripping out much of the previous dull filler (celebrity blah blahs with folk who are only there to promote something) and other deadwood elements, and actually going out and doing things (adventures, tribute features) where the Trio's enthusiasm shines as genuine, instead of coming off a script which has been approved by committees of box-tickers. |

In the final episode of Season 3, have you noticed that Fast & Furious 6 "Flip Car" have appeared? |
◊ 2019-12-18 00:45 |
TGT is back with Season 4 but ...... new format seems to be feature length (90 minute) episodes only featuring Big Adventures, and possibly only 2 episodes per season - S4 stated as only 2 and S5 (apparently to be shown Dec 2020) rumoured to only be another pair. So now no studio/Big Tent or other base to introduce the ep, no test track or lap records, no road tests of flashy zoomy things and none of the (usually stupid) features talking shite with celebrities. Ep4.01 is a marathon boat trip through Cambodia and Vietnam - the only wheeled transport our intrepid chums use is pedal bikes briefly at the beginning. Everything else is backgrounds, but have grabbed a few things in case the locations make them interesting. Various 1 motorbikes - originally given pages, but no IDs or comments made so relegated: - Cambodia - Vietnam -- Last edit: 2020-01-09 20:55:02 |

Ep4.02 was a run through Madagascar - there's online chatter about filming in Nov 2019 and various cock-ups and amazingly dangerous near-disasters (but wearing my Cynical Hat I wonder if this is all part of carefully planned ramping up the hype before it's broadcast). Our chums each have grotesquely modified conveyances - James has an orange Caterham 7 (LJ18CVG) with tractor-like wheels, Richard a black sporty Focus with each wheel replaced by caterpillar tracks, and Jezza has a green Bentley Continental GT (DA64UXE) with macho off-road wheels and other bits. Seems they may claim these were all taken to Madagascar as ordinary road cars and converted by our intrepid trio in back-street workshops, but the Bentley at least may be this thing (V12) built a few years ago for the National Geographic series Supercar Megabuild, sold on ebay in late 2017 and now owned by a tank-driving experience centre "Tanks-Alot" in Northamptonshire. If it's not the same one, it's an identical twin .. I think we've already had a picture of it posted somewhere, but can't find it - was it a comments picture under something else?? -- Last edit: 2020-03-10 16:07:23 |

Yes - too many things got trashed for no real reason. But underneath the vandalism, there was a genuinely affectionate tribute to Gallic eccentricity, and some very funny bits of commentary which made me giggle out loud. Which I never do when watching telly. It was probably my favourite TGT episode. One running joke which lost me - why did James keep eating meals under a dish towel?? |

@Baube - just seen a BBC Scotland programme which says the origin in Canada was the game of shinty from the Scottish Highlands through emigrations to the New World before and particularly during the Highland Clearances. Shinty usually used grassed pitches, although "shinty on ice" was a parallel Scottish winter variation using frozen lochans. Incoming settlers transferred this concept to Canadian lakes and developed it the game you know. Shinty itself may have had earlier Irish roots, so the evolution is a long and winding road. |

At times some of their antics have been absolutely dire, but at others they pulled off probably the best "three-petrolheads-arseing-about-with-cars" television I've ever seen, and this was a fitting send-off.
