This car is very obviously seen on false plates as the S type ceased production in 1967/8 and even the very last examples weren't seen on anything later than a 'G' plate. By the time of filming, S types were becoming very good value for money and were considerably more likely to fall on hard times than Mark 2's for no obvious reason. There's a common misnomer perpetuated by lazy journalists that Mk 2's were regularly smashed up on TV, especially in programmes such as The Sweeney - this isn't so; it was almost always an S Type. This use of S types in crime on celluloid was the prequel to other films such as Callan (where there is a sadly similar outcome) and numerous episodes of The Sweeney, where the appearance of an S type was usually the pre-cursor to some form of automotive carnage... -- Last edit: 2017-08-19 09:19:17 |
