Wolseley 6/80 |

... but I doubt if this was its original registration number. |

Why would you doubt it? For the 6/80, 1954 was the last year of production. |

I can't substantiate this, but from personal knowledge I can say Merioneth CC would have issued KFF much later than 1954. At a rough guess I'd have said early '60s, possibly as late as 1963 just prior to the introduction of year letters. They didn't register many new cars in Merioneth ... |

... right, I understand now. Thanks chris40. |

Looking around the neighbouring reg-numbers there is a certain accumulation in 1961/62. KFF775 Ford 1958 KFF776 AJS 1962 KFF786 MG 1956 KFF795 Vanden Plas 1961 KFF796 Ford 1962 KFF798 Land-Rover 1951 KFF799 Wolseley 1954 KFF804 MG 1950 (first reg 1993) KFF807 Land-Rover 1961 KFF809 BSA 1957 KFF812 Daimler 1959 (first reg 1994) KFF815 Bedford 1952 (first reg 1994) KFF825 Coventry Eagle 1939 (first reg 1991) I don't know how easy it was to obtain a specific number before it was due, but this might have been the case for the Wolseley. |

I would have said it was almost impossible. Until a set of registration numbers were released they would be unobtainable I think. As chris40 says the car must have been re-registered with a later number possibly when it was first restored if the first registration was not used for some reason. Possibly it could not be traced from the chassis or engine number in the days before computerised records. There is probably some significance in the fact these numbers could have been issued normally just before the year identifier was introduced and they were used to re-register vehicles where a later style number would be unsuitable. -- Last edit: 2007-09-25 15:37:25 (G-MANN) |

That sounds pretty convincing. It's interesting, too, that Alexander's exhaustive (and admirable) research (nice one, Alex ) seems to indicate that this KFF series fulfilled the same function sometime in the '90s as the SVs and SKs did earlier. |

The same car is in 'the imitation game' about 3 minutes in |
