![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Commentary says this is 1938 when Harry was living in London. My guess it's the Crystal Palace circuit, which means likely to be the London Grand Prix ( ![]() But seems ERA entered teams in both races including a #6 in one of them (not sure which) ![]() and presumably this #4 as well. So who is it?? Richard Seaman became famous for driving ERAs, but in 1937-39 was a Merc works driver - did Merc let him do other things on idle weekends?? |

As far as I can see from a “Full list of Richard Seaman’s Long Distance Races” on Pages 182 and 183 of “Dick Seaman”, by HRH Prince Chula Chakrabongse of Thailand, Foulis, 1941, Seaman drove only Mercédès-Benz cars in such races after Jan 1st 1937, when he took part in the South African GP in East London in a Delage, (retired), and with one exception, the Donington Park Tourist Trophy on September 3rd 1938, when he drove a BMW. There was no 1939 London GP, as it was pulled due to other events. Seaman had died following his crash at Spa on June 25, 1939. What I don’t know is whether the subject race was considered to be long distance. -- Last edit: 2020-03-21 17:45:35 |

I shall now do some digging about the three ERA cars in the White Mouse racing stable, but it may be a while. |

I would suggest that possible drivers of #4 were Dennis Scribbans, the racing baker from Brummagem, Arthur Dobson, Raymond Mays, but not Ian Connell, whose car was dark blue. -- Last edit: 2020-03-21 17:46:03 |

Link to "www.alamy.com" Car #6, 26/8/1939 Crystal Palace, driver, The Hon. Peter Aitken. A bit of mix and match going on then, not even the same race as Prince Bira in 1938. -- Last edit: 2020-03-21 17:20:50 |

Bira’s car #17 was Romulus, I think, but trying to glean information from a book written in chatty rather than techy style in 1939 by a Siamese Prince is far from easy! "Road Star Hat Trick", 1939, Prince Chula Chakrabongse of Thailand, pub 1944, Foulis. -- Last edit: 2020-03-21 18:17:00 |
