Pusser's actual Corvette was indeed a 1974 coupe, although the real car was code 94L Dark Red Metallic with code 425 dark red vinyl interior (the burned out wreck is still on display today, with the trim tag visible, which also shows it was built on October 9, 1973). It also had a 454 V8, in the last year it was available. The crash shown here is actually a very accurate recreation the Pusser's crash, right down to the way the car flipped, burned, and ejected him. The movie seemed to suggest the car was tampered with, or possibly he blew a tire, but that's not known. He was legally drunk and driving at over 100 mph, so it's possible he just went faster than he could handle. |
