![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Looks brand shiny new?? M 1955 was Chester 1908 issue so a dodgy show plate for film, unless someone made fire-engines in Chester and it's a factory demo plate?? |

Thought it was a Maudslay and first search brought this up - https://ccmv.aecsouthall.co.uk/p391015842 So Maudslay Merlin 11 with Merryweather Marquis body |

It looks to be a smaller than normal turntable ladder machine. Although similar to some Dennis vehicles the front grille looks very prototype/knocked-up to me. An new un-established manufacturer or existing body or fire equipment supplier using another chassis? The registration also looks like a demonstrator with 1955 being the year perhaps? M = Merryweather or John Morris Ltd? Perhaps an Alvis badge with them trying the civilian market? The pantograph wiper look very advanced for 1955. With the existing fire engine makers saturating the market perhaps this was the only one produced. |

Congratulations JCB! M-M-M..... I gave up on the Maudslay idea because I didn't think the badge looked right. |

Well done to you! I looked at that badge, and at the plate, and thought no, Maudslay had virtually become just a parts outfit by 1955, and couldn’t see any new models being relevant. |

The badge says Merryweather it says here; as a Merryweather with Maudslay chassis. What looked to be a turntable to me must be a ladder holder/retractor mechanism. ".....I've often been told it's a Maudslay. However, as you may expect, it's badged as a Merryweather. I've yet to see evidence of it the Maudslay heritage..." -- Last edit: 2020-05-22 18:10:25 |

Doesn't look like a turntable, more like a big hinge and bracket*![]() ![]() (*gratuitous video for jfs. My dad liked them, but not enough drum'n'bass to float my boat ..) |

Thanks, I always support local artists, and the village of Stacton Tressell is not a million miles away. You had to listen to the words as well as the music. “I always go to the local butcher, he hasn’t put his meat up for years!” In the midst of a prime time tv show. |
