This scene was based on the abduction and attack of Wilma Fay Jones who was abducted outside the Neshoba County Sheriff's Office by the Klan in the early hours of the 2nd June 1964. In the FBI report, it had stated that Jones went into a jewelry store early in the day to have his high school ring resized and was arrested by Rainey and Price on a phony charge of asking a white woman on a date. After the Sheriff's Office released him around midnight, he was grabbed by a gang of four white men (right in front of the officers) and forced into the gang's pickup, where they took him to a secluded area on the outskirts of Philadelphia and then told him to leave town and that if he didn't leave town or that if he return, he would be killed. After the attack, he left town and ended up in Chicago, Illinois where the stayed with family. One of the attackers was Edgar Ray Kelly who was one of those who were involved in the Civil Rights Workers' Murders. -- Last edit: 2017-09-04 10:13:40 |
