This UK Kadett was always called Belmont or did it have a change at some point? |

I think Belmont was for 4 door cars and Astra for Hatchbacks |

The 1985 model year Vauxhall Belmont saloon/sedan version did I believe change to Astra Saloon late in its history - the 'Belmont' did not prove to be very popular name. This is as I remember it - in the last one to two years, with a minor facelift the Belmont name was dropped. |

I think the later ones were badged Astra Belmonts. Certainly the name Belmont never survived to the next bodyshape. I was wondering if Vauxhall were considering using any other typical hotel names as well as Carlton & Belmont? Adopting the same names as Opel stopped anything like that. |

Carlton and belmont names date back to the 1910-30;s vauxhalls with custom built bodies on there chassies from varius firms simlier to roll royces of that times. GM;s take over 1925 onwards slowly ended that with mass production. |

First Belmonts introduced Jan 86; renamed Astra Belmont Jan 89 with new badging, grille and wheel trims. Died Oct 91 and buried in an umarked grave. Ford hit the same buffers with the Orion name, rebadging all surviving saloon versions as Escort from Aug 93. |

Bizarrely the estate also got the Astra Belmont name. |
