I think it's a 1960 Pontiac. If so, it would be a Catalina [2167] or a Bonneville [2867]. |

I actually think that the "SurfSide 6" car was a 1960 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible...rather than the Catalina. I could be wrong, but the more I've looked at info, pictures, and a couple episodes of "SurfSide" that I have, I think it's a Bonneville. |

Adding to my last message from a couple years ago...this Pontiac Catalina/Bonneville should have at least 3 stars as it was one of the main cars the Surfside 6 detectives used in the show. It wasn't shown in every single episode...but it was in many, at least during the first season. I think newer models (61 or 62) were used in the second season. No...it's that one pictured! They all lived on the Surfside 6 houseboat there, and they had to park their Pontiac convertible in front, up out on the street. Since it's not used in every single episode (like the General Lee in "Dukes of Hazzard" or KITT in "Knight Rider") I understand it may not deserve the most stars...but it still at least needs 3 stars. -- Last edit: 2011-03-03 07:05:23 |

So, going back to my original question here...is this a Catalina or Bonneville? It's so hard to tell from this pic. I have the show on some homemade DVD's but it's been a couple years since I've watched season 1--which is when this opening/closing credit shot was first filmed and used. So, I don't remember features of the Pontiac they drove to know which model it was...I'll have to get the show out sometime and watch it again. Also, whichever model this is, it should have at least 3 stars, as it's the Surfside 6 agency car the guys used during first season. Okay...I think I've found the answer to my original question of whether this first car used in the series was a Catalina or a Bonneville. I just watched a first season episode and in one part it showed Lee Patterson (Dave Thorne on the show) driving the Pontiac, and there was a close-up of the front grill. There was the word "Bonneville" written across the driver's side of the grill. So, I think this car needs to be changed from a Catalina to Bonneville, as it's a pic of the first car used. Later in the show there was a 62 (possible a 61 too??) Catalina Convertible used...but this first convertible was a Bonneville. Also...once again this car needs to have more stars than 1...it was NOT a "background" car, but a "regular" car used during the first season.
