Only 29 Spiders built, but unfortunately seems there's at least two green ones with black interior (if this has black??) up to late 1969 film date. 1967 chassis CF3 (aka CFX-3) seems a strong possibility - now on sale in US and described ".. chassis CFX-3 is traced back to the initial offering of the 428... used as the brochure cover car and factory demonstrator. It was owned and driven by the Chairman of AC Cars Ltd, Derek Hurlock" and registered PPL 428E. So some neat product placement?? But there's 1969 chassis CF31 as well - "Finished on 31 January, it left the factory in the same colour as today, Live Oak over black. Dispatched to Mike Spence Ltd on consignment – presumably as a test car – and was subsequently sold to HR Owens Ltd. on 20 February 1969 and finally registered on 21 February." In 2011 auction listing it had WYF 91G plates, with DVLA saying ✗ Untaxed Tax due: 1 May 2012 and Export marker: Yes to explain this current listing with CS-863-NW plate (unknown country?), now back in UK with same Mike Spence story in the blurb. |

I used to walk past a 428 coupe on my way to school in the early 70's, it was originally burgundy but was resprayed an awful pale blue after a "very old man with very powerful, automatic car" kind of incident. |

Black interior. Were all automatics as this one is ? Number plate assume to be false as Arthur Brownjoy is name of character. Though AB1 does exist and currently on a Roller. Whole film is free to watch on BFI. ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2020-11-01 08:36:55 |

Chassis CF3 (alias CFX-3) is a manual, CF31 is automatic but different selecter which Glass's lists as a change in Oct 68 from "T-head" to "U-head". The toggle switches in thumb mean an early one before Oct 69 revamp with rocker switches, the same month as the film release. I think there were more automatic 428s than manual, but this one doesn't easily match CF3 or CF31 so another unknown green/black example. |

Production probably 67+ after Oct 66 announcement. |
