How did the original trailer catch fire Chevv, and do you know if they decided not to use the same Kenworth in part two just for the storyline, since in part 1 they said they were going to buy a new rig with the $80,000?

Sources I've read say that four trucks and three trailers were used for the movie, with the mural being painted by a bodyshop in Tennessee, that ultimately lost the photos in a fire, but I've never heard of the trailer itself doing such. As for the trailer, I would love to see the remaining one, if any. I'm honestly damn surprised nobody ever kept track of the whereabouts of the truck/trailer setup from the first movie after production ended. The truck and trailer from the first movie are just as much a film icon as the TransAm, and it just stuns me there's no photos of them as they sit now. I also know by secondhand reports (that are rather frequent in nature, leading me to believe it may very well be true) that one of the truck/trailer setups from SATB1 is at a semi truck dealership in Atlanta.
shuvlhd69 ◊ 2008-09-04 19:37	the KW from part one was purchased by Joe Kleco (former NFL player & "truck driver "in part two). the truck burned in a storage garage. one of the three trailers used for part two burned also. the remaining trl.s were returned to the dealer & parted out. no one knows the where abouts of the trl. from part one. this came from Hal Needham the director from the movie(s).
kw1973 ◊ 2009-01-11 03:10	there are 2 or more kws(plus trailers) in satb1. look at the different air cleaners & trailer axle placement between clean & drity trucks. not sure, but look at stacks, the dirty truck has had on tips?

56PeteFan ◊ 2010-01-27 02:21	http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/forum01/index.php?topic=39439.msg334679#msg334679 here is the last known loactions on of of the trucks used in Smokey and the Bandit II, .p.s. there were only 3 KW's used in Smokey and the Bandit 1977 & only 2 trailers, since then the 2 trailers & 2 original 1974 KW's burnt down in a ware house, the 3rd truck was a 1973 KW and was auctioned off in 1980, after 1997 the current location on this truck is unknown
Jmedina1971 ◊ 2011-09-21 09:39	Interesting tidbit that many might find interesting, This very same GMC truck appeared in another film movie called "The Last Song" in 1980 with Lynda Carter. The GMC truck was pulling a tank trailer which was to be blown up by criminals according to the movie. Lame film but the truck scenes are very good.

K dubble u ◊ 2023-02-21 05:58	There were 3 identical trucks, all were 1980 GMC Generals. Two were used in the movie, and I think the other was the Alaskan truck. They all had Able Body Sleepers, which were prototypes at the time, and those were removed and scrapped after filming. I think two trucks got standard sleepers and the third was turned into a day cab. I have the most information on the third one out of any because that's the one everyone knows exists today. I can verify it has an 8V-92T Detroit Diesel, with an RT-12513 13-Speed Eaton Fuller. It was a day cab after filming, then sometime after 1986, it got a grain body installed. It now resides in Missouri, but from what I hear the owner wants some outrageous price for it, so it just sits in his shed until someone coughs it up!

In the March 1979 Overdrive Article, there is a portion that talks about a 2,500-mile trip to Alaska and back. I think that was in January, which would make the first truck a 1979. That truck was used in the movie. The second truck was not used in SBII, but it was used in The Last Song.

Three GMC General Trucks titled as 1980's had a prototype able sleeper that was called the General Quarters Sleeper and as said that these three trucks had the 400HP V8-92T Detroit Engine with a 13 Speed Transmission Although there was three trucks with the General Quarters Prototype Sleeper only two of them looked identical and only two of them were used in Smokey and the Bandit II The first appearance of any one of these trucks was as said on the cover of the March of 1979 Overdrive Magazine This very first appearance was with one of the trucks that was used to film Smokey and the Bandit II as well, Too That very same year there was a truck that was sent on tour to truck shows to advertise for the upcoming General Quarters Prototype Sleeper this truck would of eventually been refitted with a 36" Sleeper and would of been sent to Hollywood and was used to film episodes of B.J. and the Bear, The opening credits of the second season of B.J. and the Bear and eventually would of appeared in the film Willa The third appearance of been when the two identical trucks were used to film Smokey and the Bandit II Another appearance after Smokey and the Bandit II was done being filmed would of been when the truck that had appeared in the March of 1979 Overdrive Magazine would of also appeared in the beginning of Clint Eastwood's Any Which Way You Can The last appearance in Hollywood would of been the Last Song movie with Lynda Carter and yes the truck that was used in the Last Song movie had also appeared in Smokey and the Bandit II as the second truck After Smokey and the Bandit II, The Last Song and Any Which Way You Can were completed being filmed the two identical trucks were sent back to a GM Motors Truck Factory Plant where the sleepers were also removed off of these two trucks the first truck that was seen on the March of 1979 Overdrive Magazine and that was used to film the beginning of Clint Eastwood's Any Which Way You Can was also eventually with refitted with a 36" Sleeper The second truck that was seen in the Last Song Movie with Lynda Carter was also seen on the March of 1981 Overdrive Magazine Cover and was turned into a daycab Eventually sometime between 1986 and now the truck was also eventually turned into a grain truck as the second truck was still known to be a daycab big rig in 1985 In 1982 the last truck was taken back from Hollywood and all three trucks were eventually sent to a GM Truck Dealer where all three trucks were sold to individuals in 1982 that had worked these trucks for a living hauling real loads There's also minor differences between the two identical trucks that were built and both used to film Smokey and the Bandit II The biggest difference between the two trucks is looking right underneath the passenger side door of the truck The surviving truck that is now a grain truck has a third fuel tank underneath the passenger side of door while the other GMC General had a second battery box underneath the passenger side door Another thing is look at the mirrors of the two trucks the surviving truck has a much wider passenger side mirror than it does on the driver's side while the other truck has to matching mirrors The last way to tell these trucks apart is look underneath the headlights the surviving truck has blue pinstripes going underneath the headlights that are also outline pinstripes that run along the fenders of the truck The other truck didn't have any blue pinstripes on the fenders once so ever On the left column in my above picture is the first truck that had also appeared in the beginning of Clint Eastwood's Any Which Way You Can and that was also on the March of 1979 Overdrive Magazine Cover while the right column in my above picture is the truck that is now a grain truck that had also appeared in the Last Song movie with Lynda Carter and that was also on the March of 1981 Overdrive Magazine Cover A little fun fact about Smokey and the Bandit II is that both GMC General trucks used to film the movie were used to film the beginning race track scene So, The truck should just really listed as a 1980 GMC General -- Last edit: 2023-06-13 05:39:33
