/vehicle_504285-Morris-Isis-1956.html Notes made about the Isis models above link. I am basing my identification on the front bumper with its cover over the starting handle hole, not normally present on Oxfords. If someone was insistent that this was an Oxford I would accept that. |

The Oxford greatly exceeded the Isis in sales, but there is just something about this that says it is one of the six cylinder cars. -- Last edit: 2020-12-08 14:28:24 |

Small Morris winged bonnet badge and short chrome bonnet trim makes it an Oxford I believe. Also no side-trim adjacent to the headlamps which I think would just be visible on an Isis. Isis would have the larger specific badge and full length bonnet chrome strip. Cannot explain the starting handle cover plate but I guess it is an Oxford Series II. |

Publicity photograph of an Oxford with starting handle cover plate, so perhaps some were fitted on Oxfords.![]() https://classics.honestjohn.co.uk/reviews/morris/oxford-mk2-mk4/ edit: On IMCDb another definite cover plus a possible cover seen here but still rare. -- Last edit: 2020-12-11 17:03:20 |

No problems. How about....... Cowley(!) Oxford S2 Isis I and II Have covers. Cowley 1500 Oxford S3 and S4 No covers Source is the pictures in Graham Robson’s “The cars of BMC”. To finish with a further thought, all the above cars are recorded as having either 4ft 5in or 4ft 5.5in front track, the 0.5in difference presumably being tyre sizes. It would seem possible that some swapping of bumpers on old cars could have occurred. -- Last edit: 2020-12-11 20:10:55 |

The Cowley with a starting handle cover, two found so far in UK and one in NZ but more often without (all preserved examples). The Series II Oxford again a very few with, most often without; but the Isis II does seem to have a (almost?) 100% rate of having them. Series III none I think. Either they were not always fitted or mostly removed? Alternatively perhaps they over-ordered for the Isis and with BMC's logic they occasionally used them up on the lower models? -- Last edit: 2020-12-12 11:57:49 |

I don’t see them being removed without leaving a telltale mark or holes. I do see the blokes at Cowley being quite happy to use the next front bumper in the stillage, provided it fits (or even if it doesn’t) so maybe this isn’t a solid marker. |
