 1955 Austin grille before 1966 (when also used on Morris) '69 HL', '69 ML' or '69 NL' providing the grille wasn't changed on this actual ambulance before 1969.

It could be an Appleyard body perhaps?

I believe you could be right.
Registration looks brief enough to be shorter than 6 characters and with a bit of imagination the last letter could be 'L' so could have been used for a few TV appearances.
