This looks a lot like the General Motors Firebird II, but it appears to have a different front clip from seen here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:FirebirdII.jpg http://auto.howstuffworks.com/gm-motorama-firebird5.htm This car also has cut-outs behind the doors that are not found on the Firebird II. |

I couldn't match it to any existing concept car. As the section was about design it might just be a non running styling model. |

I would say it the Firebird II from 1956. If it is it had some styling changes done to it at this point. Side grills were added to the rear fender and a scoup in front of the rear wheel. The front clip is different. The car could be a duplicate as the original is in its original form these days and colour (silver) GM shows it off fairly regularly these days. I have seen it at Meadow Brook and Eyes concours several times. |

doesn't look like a firebird II. Agree with alexander, its probably a styling mock up. |

I dug into the subject a bit deeper and think that what we see here is the GM XP-500, the direct forerunner of the Firebird II. It is quite possible that this car was altered to form the final look of the Firebird II. Again finding pictures is very difficult. This is the only one I found so far: ![]() |

XP-500 still existed in the 2000s, so it was not an earlier or remodeled '56 Firebird II. |
