This car actually saved the president's life. While Mr. de Gaulle was being transported through Paris, 12 gunmen opened fire back on the back of the car! The 140 bullets fired killed two motorcycle officers behind the car and blew out the back window and all four tires an the DS. In any other car this would've left the President of France a sitting duck but owing to the DS's unique hydropneumatic suspension, the car could be driven without any tires so the driver was able to make a quick getaway on four flats and the only injuries the President sustained were cuts on his fingers when he brushed the broken glass off his shoulder. |
