Seems a good match for this pic found online of a Scammell Shell-BP tanker OLU 306 = London, Jan-Dec 54. I've got a book pictire of similar Scammell ESSO tanker OLU 835 captioned "A classic Scammell tractor and semi-trailer supplied in 1954. It was later called the Highwayman. It had a Gardner 6-cylinder engine and was popular with many operators. The tanker could carry 4000 gallons and was under 22 tons gross weight.". A different book has a picture of another similar chemical tanker captioned as a 1953 15MU (WVW 755 = Essex July-Aug 53). |

Thought we'd have loads of these as common and often seen in old films but this is first. 15MU my guess. |

There were some run by a firm called W. H. Cowburn and Cowpar which were frequent visitors to Staffs, they were very plainly finished in deep maroon with very plain white lettering “W H C & C”. As a kid I used to think it was W. H. Cowburn and Cowpat, which is probably why I remember them. http://www.trucknetuk.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=35310 -- Last edit: 2021-02-17 14:39:22 |

Looking at the front wheels they have eight studs, 15MU concluded from https://ccmv.aecsouthall.co.uk/p314499517 comment "I've assumed 15MUs have 8-stud front wheels". |
