Not a genuine GT. No driving lights, and chrome mirror painted black instead of teardrop mirror. Chrome and woodgrain insert on door trim would indicate a Fairmont |

The scene was the reenactment of the failed robbery of the Fielders Bakery Payroll committed by Neddy Smith and Smith's former cellmate, Robert "Bobby Chapo" Chapman at Granville, NSW on the morning of the 20th October 1976. Smith and Chapman had served time together at the infamous Tamworth Home for Boys as children before serving time in Grafton Gaol. According to Neddy Smith, Chapman had told Smith about the Fielders Bakery Payroll. At the time, the payroll for the bakery would usually be picked up by a security crew in an armored van every Thursday morning, but on the day of the robbery, Smith and Chapman saw the bakery's employees arriving in a Ford Falcon GT. After seeing the employees picking up the payroll, Chapman got out their stolen car started to chase the employees as they got back into the Ford and were about to drive off. Upon seeing Chapman running towards them, the Ford's driver floored the accelerator only for the Ford to stall, Smith then later pulled in front of the vehicle, with Chapman firing shots at the Ford. One shot had shattered the Ford's rear window and another shot hit the pillar behind the Ford's driver as he managed to get the Ford restarted, before driving around Smith and Chapman's car. Chapman continued to firing shots at the Ford's shattered rear window, but the employees managed to escape from the scene unscathed. After the failed robbery, Smith and Chapman drove to Harris Park, about 3km from the scene where they dumped the car and got in a second car driven by Chapman's wife, Gail Handley. -- Last edit: 2022-09-20 18:04:03 |
