That looks like the semi-ubiquitous (at the time) Motor Panels Vista-Vue cab, used on lots of trucks from mid range upwards. Comet?

Leyland Beaver long door LAD (yes, Vista-Vue )cab, protruding wheelarches not flush with lower cab sides, no Comet or Super Comet script on the front.

It always struck me as odd that the Leyland zoo was invaded by a Comet.

Looking for logic in model names is foolhardy.

It replaced a Cub (the young of a fox, bear, lion, or other carnivorous mammal) so not a name of an animal species itself, I would say.

Comet (the original 1948 normal control truck) was intended to show a fresh new truck design (CM Archive says so) with an up-to-date 'catchy' name. I guess the post war interest in new technology rockets, space and jet aircraft? It was also the same time as the de Havilland Comet was being tested I cannot find when the name Comet was applied to the DH.106 but it must have been about the same time as the truck. Although the truck carried the 'flash' associated with the small solar-system body its similarity to the new jet airliner's name was probably a marketing advantage at the time; that is until the fatal crashes occured in early passenger use. Anyway apparently Leylend decided not to pursue a space oriented re-naming policy.

Could be more piscatorial-
An Octopus
I think this could be more likely as not seen any Shell Beavers except as airport refuellers.

JCB, yes Leyland Octopus Shell-BP does appear to be commonplace...

A Leyland Super Comet (which it's not)

Only strange thing is the bumper as most (all? ) Octopus/Beaver/Comets have a deep bumper with two extra light cut outs.

Looks like a 7-character suffix plate so 1963+, probably 1964+ as relatively few A series were issued.

Bumper replaced with fishy (non-Leyland) part probably and lights repositioned under the bumper on brackets?

Not the Albion version of the bumper but a similar size. It looks possibly to be from the earlier 1950s flat-front Octopus.

Yes someone's probably fitted an old stock bumper and saved a few squid .

Didn’t want to shell out too much, then.
