Who knows if it´s 200 or even 250? |
◊ 2005-12-17 00:16 |
what about a W114 rather a W115? |
◊ 2005-12-17 00:21 |
Well we can´t have both, so we´ll have to pick anyway. So I used the low number as well as the first modelyear since I couldn´t get closer. |

Engine size '200' does not fit to W114 (six cylinder). See here: /vehicle_11493-Mercedes-Benz-W114.html |

then 230/280 should be better than nothing ,as the most common name are those "commercial numbers" for anybody...most of people does not know the Wxx numbers, it is the same with the Exxx for BMW... Linked to the year of production, anybody understand how a 220S around 1955 is different from a 220S of 1963 for example. |

I agree. The chassis numbers are good for experts (like us ) and databases. In Germany only the W123 was widely know by this number. This one here is best known as '/8' ('Strich-Acht', translated 'dash-eight'). |

The chassis numbers are usually know by people that are interested by the make. But this is probably more true for BMW than Mercedes. |

I'm not an expert of mercedes neither of Bmw, that's a fact...in another hand, you ask me what a 450SE of 1975 looks like and I will tell you...but I am not able to say what a W123 looks like! |

It can´t be 230.6, they were produced later. About 1975 when there also was a 230.4 in production at the same time. Before that it´s plainly 230 if it´s to be added at all. I don´t mind really, but since there´s a wide range of possible engines for this car it´s only guesses. If we take a random pick each time maybe it evens out, otherwise we´ll have to many 200 or 230 if we decide to take lowest possible number to put on the cars that can´t be clearly identifed. Is that better than just using the body code W114/W115? With this body it´s a problem since they use different numbers for 4,5 or 6 cylinder cars, of course. But that´s an exception. Mainly I prefer not to have all these production codes mixed up with the Make and Model, it´s like reading a spare parts catalogue. Exciting only for freaks like us But for cases like this, when we only can tell the body and there´s a code that is fairly known to the public, I think it´s better to use that in the chassis field as we have done before. |

...aren't you contradict what you said just before " ...Exciting only for freaks like us... " |

Most of the people that will search for Mercedes in movies will search for these codes (according to the referer from forums that I see in the statistics), so I think that they are much more important than the commercial number-names |
◊ 2005-12-19 21:33 |
MMmm...?? sorry, but I'm not sure of that.. |
◊ 2005-12-19 21:36 |
I agree that this code can enlarge the way of searching models of Mercedes for people who knows them, but I'm not sure at all there are the most part... |
◊ 2005-12-19 21:40 |
I see your point, and I would like to use the right modelnumber too if it was possible to know. But it´s not. So I believe it´s better to stick with what we do know. |

I assure you that most of the visits on the site are done through links posted on forums like "Volvo fan club", "amicale de la 205 GTI", "Mercedes W124 club", etc. e.g.: Link to "www.benzworld.org" If you are interested, I can find more, but it takes time since I have to check them in the stats generated and then go find the full URL in the logs of the site. |

Daughters Of Satan was filmed in the Philippines in 1972. The Mercedes models offered in that year/country : 200(115), & 1117 truck/bus(you could get a 108 sedan through an importer.) So that car in the film should be a 200 sedan with a 4 spd manual transmission. |

Thanks for clearing that out |
