To take this ex, I thought "Model 79A" was a normal name, and not an internal code. if it is ?, what about Model A or Model T (so famous name...)... these internal codes are making me crazy! -- Last edit: 2005-12-20 17:56:27 |

Lots of Ford have a model number given by Pilou, so I guess it was not used as commercial name like for the Ford T, or they would be more popular. |

Could pilou get involved in this discussion? ...so pilou, what is your point of view? |

I´m not absolutely sure about the Ford numbers, but I think these numbers came up after Model A and usually they correspond with the modelyear in two series. One for the Standard and one for the De Luxe, but there are of course exceptions from that rule as well... In 1933 there was Model 46 with the 4 cylinder engine, and Model 40 with the V8. 1934 the 4 cylinder was dicontinued, and the slightly facelifted V8 continued as Model 40A. But the cars have names corresponding more or less to these codes, so I think the code belongs amongst the extra info. I guess more people would be familiar with 1947 Ford Super De Luxe, than the Model 79A. |

To make it even more fun, each bodytype has its own code..... |
