Is it possible to get this lightened up? I suspect it may be a Derby Bentley, but it could also be a Jag MkV. Quite simply, I just can’t see it well enough. |

Coventry, not Derby, IMO. Jaguar MkIV, I think. No spats on rear wheels, single front bumper. May be pre war in which case SS-Jaguar as mentioned by dsl elsewhere. SS-Jaguar 3.5 litre dhc https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jaguar3,5_SS_DHC_1939.jpg Mk IV https://www.supercars.net/blog/1945→1949-jaguar-mark-iv/ Mk V Link to "www.shannons.com.au" And now, by way of comparison, the quality…. Link to "picclick.co.uk" Make up your own minds, I’m saying Mk IV. -- Last edit: 2021-08-30 10:15:12 |

It has suddenly become a 2 1/2 litre, would somebody explain how and why, or was it a guess? |

I see that my request has not yet been favoured by a response. |

I cannot say how it was assigned as being 2½ Litre... The only potential known car with lighter coloured wings against a dark body is an old friend 'JVR 299' 1948 Jaguar 3½ Litre Drophead Coupé [Mk.IV]. /vehicle.php?id=186700 /vehicle.php?id=271392 But how likely is it for the owner or the production company to add wheel covers to the wire wheels on a Jaguar? Was it intended to make it look more like a Bentley? |

It’s a lot easier to keep wheel trims clean than wires. |

JVR 299 seems to have more bulbous front wings than this one. Difficult to tell, but this one looks to me as if a short bonnet so maybe 1½ Litre, which as far as I can tell was pre-war only as DHC. Some book pics (brochure art rather than actual cars) of pre-war MkIV DHCs show these covers instead of wires. So I'm inching towards pre-war SS Jag 1½ Litre DHC, but it's too flimsy to be definite. |

I have doubta now also about what I thought were lighter coloured front wings; the back wings look as the body colour so could be just a lighting effect on the front. So it doesn't help identify it for me at all. -- Last edit: 2021-09-02 16:19:58 |

My view would be just to call it a Mk IV, and leave the engine unidentified, assuming we all agree it’s one of those. |
