The Marker-Jackson Special, known as “Mother Gun”. Link to "www.agefotostock.com" Note: I am not totally happy with this, but it will take time to sort out. This car does not look like “Mother Gun” does now. -- Last edit: 2022-05-02 13:41:23 |

There is much more to search through, I have about 300 books of various types on Bentleys and Bentley history and people, not all of which are indexed. There is also the small matter of day to day life to live, two dogs, and my home and garden. Please allow me a little time, although I think I know the chassis number, nothing is certain. |

Starters. This appears to conflate the two different appearances to one car. Link to "www.ultimatecarpage.com" |

Some years ago, a gentleman called Hugh Young compiled an Index for the then extant editions of the Bentley Drivers Club Review. Shown below is PART of the entries recorded for “Mother Gun” giving you an idea of the amount of information involved. You will note that the car was entered in “Brooklands 1934”, as the Marker-Jackson Special. See here: - http://www.vintagebentleys.org/specials/0004.php It would seem, therefore, reasonable to make reference to the car as such, and as “Old Mother Gun”, the second, silver coloured 6.5 litre incarnation being “Mother Gun”. -- Last edit: 2022-05-02 13:45:52 |

As seen in the main photo the car is: 1927 4 1/2 litre Bentley Chassis #ST3001 Reg. # YH3196 as modified and racing as “The Marker Jackson Special”. The car was subsequently rebuilt with a new chassis and a 6 1/2 litre engine and the coachwork style as shown above. -- Last edit: 2022-05-02 15:49:50 |

The Marker-Jackson Special during this period had two different engines fitted. Originally it had a Four and a Half litre four cylinder engine and its exhaust system would therefore have been on the left of the car when looking forwards. It was later, (1935/6) fitted with a Six and a Half Litre engine which would have had the exhaust on the right of the car looking forwards. If it is accepted that the subject picture was taken in 1934 then the car is in its original state, and cannot be the Barnato Hassan. The car in the later picture with a 1 on it is either the 6.5 litre version or not the Marker-Jackson, but it is clearly identified as such earlier this piece. Reference to Miss Allan suggests that the picture was taken in 1936, as the car broke its four cylinder crankshaft during the 1935 Brooklands 500 was subsequently rebuilt. -- Last edit: 2022-05-03 21:19:31 |
