*Apologies for the massive amount of unknowns. The racing events and the movie were mostly held at Brooklands race track. Not sure where where the dirt race took place.
The useful racingsportscars website is lacking in information, so more expertise is needed here.

 1. No need to apologise for posting large quantities of unknowns. Nearly nothing is more disappointing than finding that a film containing the sort of cars in which one is interested has been posted with everything filled in. There is some minor redress when you find they have got something wrong.

2. I have tried to glean what I can from old copies of magazines of that era, from my previous knowledge, and from Brooklands race reports, but have reached the conclusion that these stills are the product of more than one race.

3. The reports from the day are an annoyance in that they do not always contain full information, Motor Sport being amongst the worst. One of the particular annoyances being that they do not show the racing numbers of cars that fail to finish.

4. There seems to be a remarkable lack of interest in this era of motor racing, not the least amongst the generation of teenage scribblers who think a car built 7 years ago is old, however, that’s probably just my spleen being vented.

5. Shall I continue to work on this thing, or, if I stop, will anybody give a fetid pair of dingos kidneys anyway?

 BTW, 2 pots (large) of Marmite already in cupboard as a hedge against inflation. The Aldi alternative, while £1 cheaper, just doesn’t cut the Colman’s.

 Film was released 22 July 1935 (imdb date), 1935 Brooklands 500 was 21 Sept that year, so can be excluded.

 Sunbar, thanks for this, not being familiar with Crystal Palace I didn't spot it at all. The problem here is that dirt track cars are a world of their own, tending more towards the hill climb special type of designs, and there were many weird things built in the 30s for one or the other discipline, or both!

"...Napier-Railton, 10½-litre Delage, a ‘flatiron’ which could be Frank Ashby’s Riley 9, Type 35 Bugatti, Mercedes SS, Amilcar, and scads of Austin and Riley specials....the director chose to use actual footage of Clive Dunfee’s fatal accident when his car went over the top...".

I agree with jfs about the general lack of interest in pre-war motor racing (and pre-war vehicles, perhaps), especially from the younger generation. Personally, I only recently (maybe a year ago or so) started to appreciate cars from this era (1920s, early 1930s) and was eager to learn more about it. It's also a bit more challenging to retrieve any sort of info from this specific period, but at the same time, it's just as fun to dig in the deep archeology of motor racing.

 I've got the interest (or at least the enthusiasm to try), but not the knowledge to be as effective as I'd like to be, and maybe others amongst us are similarly minded. But even if our efforts don't always produce full answers, we should always keep trying - it's the underlying purpose of the database - best efforts are better than blanks. We're linking strands, extending knowledge and making it more accessible - and maybe enjoying the attempts at the same time.
