Wow!! Atkinson Silver Knight from the fleet of W. H. Bowker Limited of Blackburn, and coupled to a tilt trailer belonging to MAT. From 1961 until around 1970, Bowker were the Northern agents for MAT. The distinctive double headboard arrangement was made specially by Atkinson for only two customers: Sutton & Son (St Helens) Limited and W. H. Bowker Limited. The one in this photo is a single headlight 'Silver Knight' Mk.1 tractor, which would narrow it down, I think, to fleet numbers 22, 33, 34, 35, 36 or 38, and new in either 1964 or 1965. There is a surviving, slightly later, Bowker Atkinson in this livery, and still in the ownership of W. H. Bowker Limited from new: it was driven from new in March 1967 by one driver, until he retired in October 1980. It was then retired with him. and he kept it at home and looked after it until January 1983, when he returned to work with the lorry, to do yard and shunting work. Both of them finally retired in December 1985, after which the lorry was restored. Here it is when the driver, Johnny Hemelryk, first retired in October 1980: Link to "www.flickr.com" -- Last edit: 2022-12-02 17:06:52 |
