It might not be hard to figure, but I don't want to do it now.

Do you think it's a dragline or a shovel? The boom's not exactly typical for either, is it?

it doesn't even really matter as the booms were interchangeble

but to me it looks more like a dragline

Yeah, I suppose the chain on the ground is for dragging. Maybe if we had more views....

There are some draglines with that style of boom.

I wasted 3 days of my life looking this up. This movie was filmed in New Mexico from what I believe, and a lot of older draglines and other equipment were sold down to Mexico and southern states with some of these dating back to 1890's. (A practice that is still done to this day with newer equipment, but I digress.) Interestingly, some of this equipment was gathered together as lots, and groups of them went to towns and cities and were then sold to them for municipal work. Depending on the town and cities, some actually made their own parts and would sell them to locals "branded" as the city or town's name. These were built very inconsistently, and were often mangled messes of parts that were custom built or from different builders. I'm pretty sure that this thing is one of those. It's probably made up from at least 3 or 4 different manufacturers. If it helps though, based around where it was filmed, the make would probably be: Palomas, Hachita, Prieta, or Deming. My bet is Hachita as that's the closest to where the filming location presumably is. Unless someone on IMCDB was around during the 1930's and worked on one of these things, I don't think we're going to ever identify this vehicle.

TL:DR - Crane presumably built in Hachita, by Hachita, between the 1920's and 1940's. Custom built with parts custom made or from different manufacturers. Possible make is Hachita, no model name, year, or anything else can be determined from this photo.
